University of the Virgin Islands
Research Assistant Professor of Oceanography
The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active extramural-funded research program in biological oceanography and will be part of a research group studying Integrated Caribbean Coastal Ecosystems, an NSF-EPSCoR funded initiative; The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses within the College of Science and Mathematics and the Master's of Marine and Environmental Science Program. Other duties include institutional, departmental and community service and student mentoring and advising. Primary responsibilities include seeking and securing outside research funding, producing high quality peer-reviewed research publications, supervising and working with research staff, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, serving as chair or member of graduate student committees and mentoring undergraduate students. The candidate will also be responsible for serving on University committees and participating in occasional outreach activities and perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in physical or coastal oceanography or related field. Two years of postdoctoral experience, experience in Caribbean or tropical systems preferred. Training and expertise in physical or coastal oceanography with research areas of interest to include modelling of coastal current patterns and or identification and distribution patterns of larval marine invertebrates and fishes.
