HUMAN DIMENSIONS OF FISHERIES AND WILDLIFE ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, TENURE TRACK

The Fisheries and Wildlife Department (Corvallis, OR) invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Human Dimensions of Fisheries and Wildlife Management. We seek an enthusiastic colleague whose skills in exploring social and human dimensions of natural resources will complement existing strengths in conservation problem solving and applied ecological research.
Duties: This is a full-time tenure track position with responsibilities for teaching, advising, research and outreach in the human dimensions of fisheries and wildlife conservation. The appointee will be expected to teach three undergraduate classes annually and one graduate course every other year. Courses may include those offered on campus, online, or in some combination. This faculty member will also advise undergraduate and graduate students. Research should relate to understanding the attitudes, values, ethics, behaviors, and roles of diverse publics associated with complex fish and wildlife resource issues. Teaching and research collaborations with faculty in Fisheries and Wildlife and other departments across campus are expected. Development of outreach activities relating to public involvement in natural resource decision-making is anticipated. In all duties the faculty member is expected to demonstrate cultural competence and to exercise their knowledge and skills related to multicultural perspectives.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in a social science or natural resource field, completed by time of appointment
Cultural competence, including a record of effectively working with underrepresented students and/or faculty or communities. Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Ability to identify significant natural resource problems resulting in research related to social and human dimensions of natural resources, as evidenced by a record of scholarship (grants, presentations, publications, outreach products) in these areas
Some experience in natural resources policy, planning, and/or management
Ability to communicate and collaborate with resource managers, administrators, other decision-makers, and multiple stakeholders
Evidence of effectively teaching and mentoring
