The Plant Sciences Institute at Iowa State University seeks applications for an Assistant Scientist III who will, under the supervision of the Director, be responsible for the design and execution of informatics and statistical analyses to enhance our understanding of maize genomics; the completion of current projects goals; and providing informatics and statistical support to scientists and graduate students.
This position will have the following responsibilities: manage and analyze large amount of genomic and phenotypic data; improve informatics algorithms or methods and deduce conclusions under minimal supervision of the PI; research and optimize statistical and bioinformatics protocols for the analyses of genome structure and phenotypes; work with collaborators in biology and engineering to devise optimized high throughput genotype and phenotype collection method; work with lab members and collaborators to provide necessary bioinformatics assistance and to advise on experimental design; provide solutions to lab members in data analysis with computational programs/scripts for automated batch mode processing of large quantities and computationally intensive genotypic/phoenotypic data; and participate in the preparation of grant proposals and manuscripts for publication.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills and the ability to work as a team which includes graduate students, professional staff, and visiting scholars.
Required Education and Experience:
Degree must be in engineering, computer science, or related field.
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience; or a Ph.D. or other professional degree and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience managing large amounts of data and using statistical analysis
Experience initiating and managing multiple scientific projects, conducting collaborative research, and summarizing reports and manuscripts for publication
Demonstrated experience with image analysis and plants
Experience working in academia
